Hi My Fellow Lumberjocks, It’s been a long time since I wrote or contributed to our website.
Having completed the sea voyage of “Jewel of Muscat” I was offered a job in Oman, to join the “Jewel of Muscat project” or what was left of the original team, comprising a few of the crew and of the construction team. Two more smaller indigenous sailing vessels were built at the same JOM site, and a model making section was created with a few more Omani students. I was to be head of the model making section. We made four more models of the JOM to be presented to VIP’s and establishments that mattered. During this time we were forming a lively group of model makers of both Omani and expatriates.
To our delight we were commissioned to build 9 wooden indigenous models for the new proposed Maritime museum. I will be posting pictures of these models and their work in progress, in due course.
Sadly the most controversial model and the one that I was most involved with, is not to be shown due to various internal conflicts between the two ministries involved. Seen below is the last of our models we built ,This is to be sent to China. The original “Sohar” sailed to china in 1980.
Our work seems to have come to and end. It was a wonderful 5 years doing the thing one love doing most.
I was advised not to post my work on the net during the past 5 years till we handed the models to the museum, but did send a few of my private work I did for my friends to LJ’s
I am at present warded to undergo open heart surgery and have time till I’m put to the knife. Hence this post.
Hope all’s well and all goes well.
Fellow LJ
