I was wondering if anybody out there has one of Grizzly’s 16 1/2” dovetail machine, I priced Grizzly, Powermatic, and Shop Fox, by far the Grizzly is the lower priced, they all look practically identical (except for color) I usually don’t let price determine the product I buy but in this occasion the price swing is pretty great, the Grizzly is $2995.00 the Shop Fox is $3875.00 that price varies, and the Powermatic I can get from my supplier for $4595.00, it would be nice if the price of two of them would be close but they are not, if anybody has any of these machines or any other please respond I would like to hear your opinion. Thanks, Tony

I don’t know about the dovetail machinery, but my experience in life is you usually get what you pay for. If it seems to good to be true, it usually is.

I got a quick look at a powermatic dovetail machine in a storage shed. Only have seen the pics of the grizzly. I am in same boat for the school shop. I want to speed up the process so more kids can make dovetails. Basically from the outside, both machines look same just different color. I prefer powermatic for the reputation, but will probably go grizzly due to cost and I have had good luck with 6 of their tools so far.

I own the grizzly dovetail machine and it’s very nice. It’s simple to set up and works great. The way they have the dust collection set up keeps the dust to a minimum and actually keeps the machine fairly clean. The clamps are all easy to adjust as well. For the price it’s awesome, I highly recommend this machine if you are planning to buy one. I like grizzly so much I bought the 18” jump saw, a 17” bandsaw, 18” open end drum sander, oscillating spindle sander, and other things. One thing I will say though is that they sent me the wrong bandsaw and had to give me a significant discount. Ooops.
Personally I only use it for large jobs like kitchens. I prefer to use the Leigh jig so I can make uneaven spacing. It looks more custom that way. The machines are dedicated, and I don’t like that.

I have many Grizzly machines and I love all of them. They sure work good for the price and I have almost no problems with any of them. The 14” Ultimate band saw can’t be beat anywhere for the price! I’d put it up against any of the expensive ones any day!!
Go for it!!
