Bummed - No Turning or Woodworking for a while

Just returned from the Doctor.

In a freak event, simply pulling a door open, I snapped a tendon band for the ring finger of my right hand. I have almost no grip (cannot even remove a jar lid), swelling, pain and lovely shades of blue and purple.

A couple weeks of meds and “no impact” on my hand. If that does not help we will do steriod shots to the effected area, in the palm of my hand. The Doc tells me that is as painful as it sounds.

I am wearing a brace to discourage people from trying to shake hands and remind me not to do anything stupid to cause worse injury.

At least I don’t have any big projects started that will be staring me in the face. Maybe I can clean and organize the shop… or start electrocuting some of these rusty tools… or, or…

OR, I could spend my “shop time” lurking around here enjoying the hobby vicariously through your projects.

Thanks for letting my whine. Time for me to pull my “big boy britches” on and get back to the job that pays the bills.

I feel you pain, but remember the ideas, wood and shop will be there for you to continue creating wonderful projects. It took me six months and a surgery, but I’m back in the shop again as you will to.

Thanks Don. Looks like I should be able to avoid surgery.

My Doctor is also a woodturner. I think he hated telling me as much as I hated hearing it.

It’s a couple weeks. We can survive anything for a couple weeks, right?

I had steriod shots in my hand before. It sounds worse than it is, it’s a sharp twinge when they stick you but other than burning a little, it was not as bad as getting a deadening shot at the dentist. I do remember the doc telling me to stop screaming, it was making him nervous…

Grizz: I have have a few ideas. Bloodwood is always a good choice, for a rich red color. I will keep my eyes open for something with some character. I might even try to segment something special, since I can work the glue bottle and clamps with my left hand.

LOL: Here is a funny. I use a computer everyday. I can normally type over 80 words per minute. This injury has taken my ring finger and pinky off the keyboard. It takes a lot of thought to touch-type with eight digits. Please excuse the typos. I might have to go back to using the 2-finger method. 8-)
