Mads....it's all your fault!

Seriously people! I wouldn’t even have attempted to build this stair if it hadn’t been for HIM!
A while back Mads posted a bunch of pictures from a museum he’d been to in…Paris, I believe it was.
Among all the pictures were 3 small scale model curved staircases.

I stared at them, and stared at them and suddenly….my eye started to twitch….just like it always does when I’m about to get myself into something I shouldn’t.
I built a scale model curved stair about 10-12 years ago….swore I would never build another one. Well, after 10-12 years of denial….Mads pictures were all it took. Pushed me right over the edge….of denial….and then….sanity.

Like a fool, I messaged Mads to ask if he had any more pictures of the stairs. Unfortunately not, but he offered to email the full res shots….so, like a fool again, I said yes please!!

And so, the many MANY early mornings, late evenings, head wrecking, mind numbing, frustrating beyond belief project…...began.
The scale model in the museum didn’t have any rail on it, so of course, Ive gotta ‘do better’ RIGHT?! The stair itself damn near drove me crazy….why not do the rail just for kicks?
I can’t even count the number of times I wanted to smash this thing and throw it in the garbage, but I’m too bullheaded.

Glad I didn’t!

Hope you enjoy.

btw….top tread is 14” high. Outside radius is 6 1/2” Full 360 degree turn. Walnut and Maple. Absolutely everything you see is handmade.

Thanks Mads…couldn’t have done it without YOU!

Wow! That is an impressive result from that staircase monkey on your back…is there a “twelve step” program you could get into:-) ?

Impressive seems like such an inadequate word – but that’s all I got. Impressive!

Thanks for sharing the fruit of your illness ;)

I agree, it’s all his fault.

Beautiful stairs. Better than the original for sure. Great pictures too.

Awesome!! You should post this in projects. After all, it is one heck of a project!! It will get a lot more exposure and will be in the top 3.

Thanks for the complements everyone, much appreciated.

Mark…if there was a 12 step program, I’d fail miserably. In fact, I’d walk out during the ‘Intervention’.
