So, just yesterday my wife and I were talking. With Christmas coming up, we were trying to figure out where to put up the stockings. Inspiration hit like a bolt of lightning…or maybe it was the third glass of Jameson (yesterday wasn’t a good day after all). Either way, I came up with an idea that should be a nice little project that will also help fill a definite need in our house.
My plan is to take some simple pine and run coat pegs through it – enough so that there’s a place for all the stockings now and for the future – and paint it to match the trim in the living room where it’ll do duty after christmas as a coat hanger for our son who can’t ) quite reach the coat rack. I found some pegs in the Lee Valley catalog, but I still need to check out Rockler and Woodcraft and compair size, shape, cost, etc.
Not only that, but it’ll serve as a great reason to get a router. After all…we don’t want ugly in our living room, now do we? ;) I’ll decorate up the ends of the piece and see what we’ve got. Like I said, it’s a simple project but it serves a need so why not!

Sounds like you have a good plan in mind. This will help overcome the initial inertia that we face when contemplating a new project. I am looking forward to seeing your progress as you go.

Thanks Scott! What’s funny is all the stuff I see me needing for this that I don’t own…primarily a router. I’ve been checking out reviews here on LJ in that regard today.

Tomcat, Very useful project I made a set so that my daughter has a low hanging one in our foyer and she is finally learning that that is where her coat goes :)
Look forward to seeing the progress and the finished work.

Thanks Chris.
I’ve been looking at hooks instead of pegs, since they seem easier to install and might fit with our style a bit better. I’ll be ordering them on pay day which should be Friday…though if I get paid early due to the holiday, I’ll be even happier :D
