I have been contemplating building a new sanding storage station to replace the one I built one day out of sheer frustration. My sandpaper used to be stored in an plastic container and things would get jumbled up, the disks would get all mixed up and it was almost easier to go buy a new pack than getting to the 320 and 600 grit sheets in the bottom of the bin. So I slapped together a quick and dirty organizer to keep things organized. It is by far, at least in my opinion the ugliest thing I have ever built from wood.

So while I was making sketches for the new sanding storage unit that will replace good ol ugly over here I thought to myself: “Myself, I wonder if other Lumber Jocks also have ugly things they have built that they really wouldnt like others to see?”
So my question is this. Do you have little gems like my sanding organizer hidden in your shop somewhere? We are always sharing the beautifull or technically inspirational things we do. What about ‘that’ project? C’mon you know the one! Post a pic here. I for one bet you cant beat my sanding organizer for sheer horribleness!

I use a $10 plastic portable hanging file storage container to store and organise my sandpaper. I put file tabs on the hanging folders to identify the grits…plus it is easily carried around when needed.

If that’s your ugliest project, to date, I’m afraid to post ANYTHING that I’ve built ;-)
But … if the standard is “whipped-up,” or “slapped-together,” allow me to submit, for your consideration, my 3-ring loose-leaf binder whatever-they’re-called:

To many ugly projects to list but many of them are posted under my projects . I’m never happy with anything I make .
I view each project as a learning experience, but now that I’m getting older I forget what I learned in the last learning experience. :))

a1Jim: may I live long enough, and become talented enough, to build my BEST project to look as stately, elegant, and beautiful as your WORST project…..

Well, I have the ugliest most disorganized woodworker in my shop, but he is all I have, so I just have to do the best I can with him.

YES I have many gems, I USE them all the time, they may not be pretty BUT they are very functional. I think of them as practice for when I need to make a real good one sometime !!!
