Wasted walnut

I was fortunate enough to get paid to remove a couple walnut trees from a customer through my tree service business. I am very limited on woodworking tools, (the reason my projects are so simple) I built a picnic table out of some of my cedar slabs, I kinda feel it would be a “waste” of wood if I built one out of walnut, although I didn’t buy the wood. Damn near felt I was wasting cedar when I built the picnic table. How about some opinions?

hmmm yeah i know what you mean. I wouldnt use the walnut on a picnic bench. take comfort in the fact that it’s probably not as suited to outdoor use as is cedar.

Cedar is a perfect match for a picnic table. Save the walnut. A better use will show up.

Only a guy with to much money would use walnut for a picnic table . There are much better things to be made out of wanut. Check the price and you will see what I mean.

sell it.

or save it … with wood like that laying around, you might be inspired to upgrade your tools as money allows, and someday you’ll have the right project for it. also, you’d be amazed what you can do with a limited tool set, a little determination, and a few skills.

I figured this is the response I would get. I honestly wasn’t going to build one. I had a friend wanting me to build him a cedar table, I told him I was out of cedar but had alot of walnut but didn’t want to waste my walnut on a picnic table. He couldn’t grasp the idea that it would be a wasteful use of walnut, that’s the idea behind my blog. Thanks all for your inputs.
