Low Cost, High quality chisels
Narex Chisels These wonderful chisels (Model # 8101 & 8105) are manufactured by NAREX, the company is located within the European Union in the Czech Republic, here is the link to Narex website. This link will take you to the correct pages in English. These chisels were reported by Fine Woodworking magazine, ...
Excellent low cost Hand planes
I have just completed this review on a Chinese imported hand plane. This hand plane looks remarkably like the WoodRiver Hand planes supplied by WoodCraft, so I thought that you might like to read the review I wrote about a similar hand plane over here in Finland. The report is in pdf format which you can down load it if you wish to read the full report. Summary: A well engineered hand plane, which has a positive feel to it as soon as you pick it up. The weight of the plane is a definit...
Extraordinary Abrasive
I have recently been undertaking a lot of experiments with the relatively new product called Abranet, made by a Finnish company called Mirka. I have been using their cloth and paper backed disks for many years, with excellent results and feel very confident with the company for quality and reliability. However, after being given some of the Abranet product to trial – I am replacing all my paper and cloth backed disks with this new product. The Abranet comes in grades P 80, P 100, P ...
Extra Large drum sander
I have just acquired this beast of a drum sander from Jet, minus the stand. The installation and initial setting up was very easy, even single handed, but be warned the main part of the unit is very heavy 85kg (187lbs), then add the extension tables and you are talking about 100kg (220lbs). (A similar unit to the Performax 22- 44 Plus Drum Sander, see the review posted by GaryK Please note that this is a European version, the drum sander specs may be different in your country. The i...
Single handed clamp
I recently purchased two of these clamps – see my blog http://lumberjocks.com/topics/5240. These clamps are available in 300 mm (12”), 450mm (18”) and 650mm (25½”) with a 80mm (3”) jaw length. I found the clamps to be more than adequate for light clamping or spreading, the action takes a little getting used to, I am more used to the conventional pistol grip versions. The clamp/spread change over, is just a turn of a switch, no mechanical changes or swapping end a...
Lightweight lever ratchet clamp
I recently purchased quite a few of these clamps – see my blog http://lumberjocks.com/topics/5240. These clamps are available in 200 mm (8”) and 250mm (10”), with a 80mm (3”) jaw length. I found the clamps to be more than adequate for light clamping. They are very easy to use especially on smaller items such as boxes, where a light touch may be needed with thinner materials are used, however they are equally at home clamping jigs to the table or machine. These cla...
The KRs baby sibling
I recently purchased quite a few of these clamps – see my blog http://lumberjocks.com/topics/5240. These clamps are a lower grade parallel clamp than the K or the KR versions from Bessey and are available in 300 mm (12”) and 600mm (24”), with a 80mm (3”) jaw length. I found the clamps to be more than adequate for light clamping, but do not expect the same performance as the KR. The clamping pads stay relatively square and parallel even when full torqued, there are ...
New Parallel clamps from Bessey
I recently purchased quite a few of these clamps – see my blog http://lumberjocks.com/topics/5240. These clamps are the next progression of the old K.Body clamp from Bessey and are available in 8 sizes from 300 mm (12”) to 2500mm (98”). I found the clamps to have a professional feel of German engineering, which gave you confidence when you used them. The clamping pads stay perfectly square and parallel even when full torqued, the non mar pads are very effective on semi h...
Lenox Bandsaw blade
Up until recently I have been using standard Band saw blade without much success, I tend to cut and re-saw a lot of white oak upto 12” in width. It was recomended to try the Lenox Tri-maste carbide tiped blade. It is a little expensive at about $140 for a 3/4” 3TPI x 136”, but boy was it worth it, I have just used it today, for all kinds of cuts on white Oak, including a 12” resaw of a board 8’ long, it was like a hot knife through butter – with vitually...
DIGITAL READOUT for PORTABLE PLANERS
The original review of this item was about 9 months ago http://lumberjocks.com/jocks/Tikka/blog/1195. You should read the blog if you want to know how I mounted this to the DC-380 Well my planer is portable it is on wheels it the Delta DC-380. I know this device was not primarily designed to be used with this larger machine, well I was up for the challenge and if it did not work, then I had another use for the readout (see the end of the blog) In summary – I think that this will be a v...
