Carved in basswood it measures 8” X 36” and has a mixed green wash in the background with a light stain over the whole thing. It is meant to be a door crown.
The design is my own, but was influenced by images in the Book of Kells.

I’ve seen a few of these here and enjoyed them very much.
This was a quick little fun piece I tried, and now I think I have to do more.
It’s carved in white pine, painted with goauche for color and coated with boiled linseed oil.
I was inspired by the fun ones here in the projects posted. Mine has a bit of the Swedish porch look to it.
Christina

over the door thistle carving

I carved this thistle in the same cypress wood as the house siding. It is over the front door. The carving itself is 2 feet wide in a 7 foot board. The other carving is over another doorway. It is also carved in cypress and is of a Midgard serpent. The finish of a water based sealer is not on it yet. I’ll do that when I seal the rest of the house. I think they will show up a great deal better when the finish is on them.

This is a handcarved white pine box. I don’t usually carve whimsical subjects, so this was just for fun. It’s 24” across, and 16” high.

carved 6 sided box

Greetings,
I have been a lurker and a learner for quite some time now, and thought I might join in the fun.
I’m admittedly not much of a woodworker; more of a carver with hand tools, but I frequently build my carvings into benches, boxes, and other simple constructions.
This is a 6-sided box made out of pine with a boiled linseed / paste wax finish.
The design carved into it is an original design of a tree of life with Pictish symbolism of 6 of the 7 elements of life…fruit, reptiles, birds, mammals, fish, and insects.
