Dealing with flooded equipment - 19 replies

Hurricane Irma left my shop with about two feet of water in it. Luckily, most stuff that could be damaged was stored higher than that. However, the motors for my planer, jointer, bandsaw, etc, spent about 24 hours submerged in water. Has anyone dealt with this before and care to share any tips on what needs to be done before applying power?

New woodturning forum - 1 reply

Although I’d caution against having too many forums (they get too specialized) one that I would like to see would be a woodturning forum. It’s a whole ‘nother world …

Review of Festool's new RO90 sander - 1 reply

Thanks to Rick Bush over at Festool USA, I got my grubby little paws on an RO90 a little over a month before its official release date (Mar 1). I’ve spent the last couple weeks getting to know it and put up a review with a ton of photos and some videos of the sander in action. This is one sweet little machine. http://www.thewoodnerd.c...

Suddenly, I'm a bowl turner! - 6 replies

I’ve always wanted to turn bowls, I just think they’re so cool. Over the years, I’ve tried and been a miserable failure. I just couldn’t master the inside, constantly getting huge catches, taking out chunks or having the tool cut a nice spiral trough. Then I got a chance to try out the Easy Wood Tools. I was so impress...

I'm on a craigslist roll - 3 replies

This morning it was a 24” explosion-proof exhaust fan for $35. This afternoon, I went to check out a Delta 40-560 scroll saw and stand. The lady wanted $50 for it. When I arrived, I found that it was a little rough. I started explaining that it shouldn’t be all rusty, I’d have to replace the air bellows, the arm was a bit s...

Router table vs Shaper - 11 replies

I’m at a point where I’m debating which to get. Luckily, initial cost isn’t really a big factor, so I’m willing to go either way. I’m not a production shop making hundreds or even dozens of feet moulding every day, so the shaper’s extra productivity isn’t a factor for me. The router will live in t...

Update to Li-Ion drill review - 3 replies

It was pointed out to me that the Dewalt drill didn’t seem to be the right shape. In fact, it turns out that Lowes had shipped the wrong drill to me, they look identical except for the battery shape. I now have the correct drill, plus another that wasn’t available when I did the original review, so I’ll run these two new dril...

I checked out six Li-Ion Drills - 12 replies

I’ve been trying to buy a new drill for a few weeks now. After reading tons of contradictory opinions and reviews, I finally decided to just buy the six drills I was considering and see which one I liked best. Since I had all these notes and data, I decided to write it up as a review.
