I was very excited at the end of this week. I’ve basically completed the four outer columns of the hutch and cabinet. I know it might be difficult to visualize what columns are doing in the project, but remember I made some modifications. It might also seem like things are moving slowly but my teacher is a perfectionist, which is what you need to be in this line of work. As you can see in the first few pictures there are lots of clamps. Clamps where important in this project because even though i purchased grade A plys, most of the wood was bent. Because of the imperfections i learned a lot about cutting bent wood and how bent wood effects the end result. At the end i called on clamps to help in the persuasion of straightening out the wood while the glue drys.

A few modifications have been made to the project. The plan is laid out. So we started off by cutting the side panels for the columns we’ve added. I know you didn’t see columns in the pictures from before but that is the main addition besides lengthening the lower cabinet to accommodate for more table space. The panels are cut and everything is as square as possible. Most of the wood was delivered bent so we’ll have to do some fidgeting a little later. Ok we’ve also used the dido blade to create channels in the wood to construct the columns.
These pictures are borrowing but they’ll get better later.

Class started 1 month ago so i’ve decided this will be my first project. Let me correct myself. My wife has deemed this my first project. I’ve decided to go with Ash for the construction. There will be a few modification to the design on this buffet just because i’m me.I’ll send progress pics as i progress. I have class on Tuesday and Thursdays so this my take a while. This is also the first time i’ve had anyone teach me the proper technique when working with wood.

One day there was light #1: I'm everyone's apprentice and everyone's my teacher.

Greetings, All

My name is Joseph and I’m new to the community. I’m 29, Male, FL. I was originally born in Haiti but raised in Florida. I love art and i love wood. When i brought them together 2 years ago i fell i love. I currently hold a position as IT director at a local hotel chain in Miami. I’m taking carpentry classes at a local adult school. When I joined this class I realized there was a huge difference between carpenters and wood workers. I would like to one-day call myself a woodworker but today I’m just a newbie. Wood is my passion and it’s what i do whenever i can. I’d leave my job and do it all day if i could. I joined lumber jocks so i could one day call myself a certified lumber jock and share the knowledge that I’ve gained to those who seek it. I’m hear listening to, and learning from everyone i make contact with. I’m everyone’s apprentice and everyone’s my teacher. Thou we are strangers now i hope to create long lasting relationship with my fellow wood lovers.

Thank you EVERYONE
