« Part 2: Progress Part 3 of Cherry platform bed series Part 4: Oil applied, coming down the home stretch »

Leg glue up. Yes, those are some nice burns on the wood.

Lumber cut to size.

My first mortise and tenon. Ever.

Headboard minus panels, dry fit.

Tuning the slot for a panel.

Drilling (Forstnering?) another mortise.

This is my method for inserting the nut for the bed bolt. I got the idea from a magazine, but this method set me back some hours. I would probably just use a barrel nut next time. Still, it looks pretty good.

Today, my orbital sander and I spent a lot of time together. I’m sanding to 320 grit, which gives me a nice polished surface and really limits the blotchiness you get with cherry. Now, check out the deep shine and grain with just ONE application of Danish oil:

More soon, as I intend to finish this project in the next few days.
