Overhang Jig

I’m rebuilding a birdhouse for our community garden. The original was a cylinder made of bending ply, really not up to job, almost completely delaminated. The new house will be dodecagon with spruce walls. I’ll reuse the roof and the bottom circle.

I’ve dusted off an old school overhang jig for repeat pattern cuts, taught to me at L.A. Trade Tech in the 70’s. This job could be done with a router but this is much quieter. Double sided tape instead of screws is an option.

My adjustment was a bit off, next time I’ll check

Very cool. And phenomenal that you retained the jig that long.

Cheers Tony, you’re right, it’s a good thing I didn’t have to make a new jig. lol

It’s all done now, a bit of fitting on some of the staves. The 8 apartment tower is back on the road.

Top notch work as always Bill.

Will the finial get a touch up?

Your comments are always welcome Tony.

The finial and the bottom disk painted and fitted, nail holes bogged and top coated and the shingles oiled.

Nice restore of the bird house.

Is your overhang jig the same as what some call an L fence?

I’ve only known the it as an overhang. I have cut slow convex curves this way.

I’m just a tourist at the garden, my wife tells me this is the first time for a taro patch.
