Victorian Blackwood

Nothing is as satisfying as laying a good stock of timber. Friday I bought 1.1 m3 of Victorian Blackwood from the Otway Ranges, backing boards from a veneer mill. Most of it will be resawn into back, sides and tops for guitars, mandolins and ukuleles, more than I’ll ever use. This blackwood has a medium figure and will make some outstanding instruments. From the yard to my racks. The ukes at the bottom are sopranos made of oregon and southern silky oak (not a quercus). Concert size is next on the list.
