After putting my banjo project on display, I have received a number of comments running the gamut from complimenting the wood used to alluding to banjo player jokes. It seems as though there is a significant number of us that would like to build musical instruments, but are too intimidated or feel perhaps they are not musical enough to succeed. I really want to encourage you, if you are thinking about doing something like this, to give it a try. Go ahead and buy one of the many great “kits” out there, and follow the instructions, and you’ll succeed! If you get stuck, there are enough other instruments around for reference, and enough of us that have built them to be helpful. Go for it!
Oh, and do you know what it means when a banjo player drools out of both sides of his mouth? It means the stage is level!
Do you know what you call a banjo player with a pager? An optimist.
What do you do when a professional banjo player shows up on your doorstep? Give him the money, and take the pizza!

Thanks for the post and the one-liners as well. They were cute.
Thanks for the encouragement. I may consider one of these some day.

If any of you are interested in building your own instruments, take a look here:
www.luthierforum.com
www.luthiersforum.com
www.mimf.com
The folks at these instrument forums are every bit as helpful and friendly as the folks here at LJ.
