Joe, you blocked me? - 7 replies
Well so much for your openness to everybody’s opinion. But that’s okay, I actually like your political rants and, though I often disagree with you, I respect your determination to bring peoples attention to the serious issues we face. You can go ahead and block me if you want, I don’t take it personally. Just up the good work! ;)

Do you use a mobile device for web browsing? - 25 replies
I guess you can consider this sort of a mini survey. I hope you don’t mind my asking.. I’m working on a project and it would help me a great deal to know how many people are using mobile devices—iPhone, iPad, Android, BlackBerry, etc.. to browse the Internet. Any details would be helpful, as well, like what device you use, how ...

What is your favorite wood and why? - 25 replies
In my effort to learn more about wood, I’d like to know some of your favorite woods and why you like it. Workability, availability, price, how it looks, if it suits a particular need… whatever you would like to add. I like grainy wood with lots of character, like Wenge, Bubinga, Kingwood, Zebra and Snakewood. I’m not real bi...

The Woodworking Word Game - 97 replies
Let’s play a game… The first letter of the word must be the last letter of the previous word, and it must be something related to woodworking or wood. Try not to repeat a word. If the previous word ends with an E, then you can use the letter before it. For instance, if the last word is envelope, then the next word can be Extra ...

Yardsale Find - Thor Worm Drive Saw - 9 replies
Just thought I’d show off this nice find, a 1940’s Thor Circular Saw, complete with paperwork. The service manual is dated 1947. I asked if they have any old tools and the lady showed me this sitting in their garage. She didn’t know if it works (it does) and let it go for $25. Sweet! Here’s some pics…. ...

Show Us Your Website - 98 replies

I need some ideas for making my website, doesn’t have to be anything fancy, to display and sell my woodworking products, and I’m sure a lot of others here would be interested in this as well. Making Websites - 55 replies
I’m starting this topic because, well… it’s already been started in another topic, the posts being widely dispersed throughout that other topic. This way we can keep all those posts together and easier to follow. If you have an interest in making a website to display, write about, sell or otherwise show-off your woodworking end...

Need some sanding advice - 17 replies
I’m practicing sanding on a few scraps, some panga panga and some old growth douglas, sanding down to 600 and getting a nice shiny luster on the hard grain of the wood, but the soft grain doesn’t polish up at all. I would like to get that even luster across the whole piece. I would think filling the grain, but they are not open grain...

Canister shaped doohickey thingy on power cord? - 18 replies
I see these on cords of all sorts – USB wires, small low voltage chargers, etc, and I’m sure you’ve seen them too. Sometimes they slide freely up and down the cord, like a large bead on a string, and sometimes they are attached to the cord so they won’t slide. I started seeing these things about 10 years ago (right about...
