I recently retired after 36 1/2 years of working with computers. I have a degree in Fine Arts (emphasis on drawing and printmaking), but have done little art work since graduation so-o-o many years ago.

I wanted to work with wood for the past 20 years, but I never took the leap. When we sold our house 14 years ago and moved to an apartment, the bug bit harder and I bought a mini lathe. I rolled it in and out of the apartment, working until dark most good days. I started out with small bowls and such, then started making pens and selling them at work.

When we bought a new house, we had a large enclosed patio with nothing much to go in it, so I bought a grizzly tablesaw and bandsaw, as well as router and other small power tools. On the verge of making some wonderful things (ha!), I stopped woodworking for 5-6 years. I started back a few months ago and I'm trying to teach myself how to work well with wood. My main problem is that I'm impatient. Computers were intuitive and I never needed a class. Woodworking takes patience, and practice, and help and ideas from people like those here on LJ.
