Today I am starting my biggest custom carving job since I have been at Public Wooodworking. It involves 24 feet of a sugar maple log that is 30” in diameter. I will be making 2 four foot Party Benches, 2 three foot Lager Tables, a five foot couch, a 30 inch diameter Bistro Table, and 2 three foot Captain Bistro Tables. I would like to start a blog but do not know how to post pictures. Any help will be appreciated. The pictures posted are of what will become the Captain Bistro Chairs. I am off to fire up my 90cc Stihl right now. Later.

I hope nobody has a hard time seeing the pictures using this link method.

Todays progress involved cutting 4 slabs for the legs of the Lager tables, roughing out the blanks for the Captain bistro chairs and saving about 10 giant grubs that were chowing down on the wood. I did not want to kill them because I do not know for sure that they are bad. If anyone knows what these grubs will become I’d be interested to learn. Also I had only one almost close call. Not bad.

April 7- Today I burned 6 tanks of gas in my stihl ms192. I hollowed out the blanks and rough shaped the back and arm rests. I hope these pics show up bigger. One log had thousands of black ants hiding in it. The black spalted lines in this maple are incredible. I can’t wait.
