Allyson's Nightstand

This is a nightstand I made for my 5 year old daughter. It is based on the bedside table design by Joseph P. Zeh (http://www.srww.com/sketchup-furniture-plans.htm). I added a lower shelf and put in two drawers rather than one (client’s requirement). The wood is white oak. The drawers and top are quarter sawn and the rest is plain sawn. The drawers feature hand cut through dovetails. The finish is stain (General Finishes – Candlelight) followed by Waterlox. More details about the design and construction are in my blog (http://lumberjocks.com/TFKeefe/blog/series/1572). Thanks for looking.

Ryan's Box

This is a box I made for my son Ryan. It is made of hard maple and a little bit of walnut. It is my first attempt
at box joints. I bought a jig for cutting box joints but it caused too much tear out. So I made a jig from things
I had around my shop which worked much better. The good thing is I only spent about $25 on the
store-bought jig.

The bottom floats in a dado while the top is glued into a rabbet. The walnut plugs were added when I
realized that at least some of the rabbet and dado cuts should have been stopped. I was pretty disappointed
when I noticed that I could see right through the box.

The box is finished with two coats of polyurethane.
