Tommy and Eli pick it up at Freddy’s shop showing us a quick little break down making lunette banding. Lunette banding was made famous by cabinetmakers John & Thomas Seymour. The Seymour’s known for the beautiful array of Federal furniture, incorporated the lunette banding on several pieces.

Thanks for the video, Tommy. You take a lot of the mystery out of the process of making this banding. At first the banding looks like a fairly complicated process but this is a pretty straight-forward tutorial.

Very nice Tommy: Can you post a nice looking picture of the banding piece. It seemed to go by very fast on the video.

Tommy, I know some people complained about your videos being too long, but I’m of the opposite opinion. This one seemed way too short, despite the fact that it looks like a pretty easy procedure to do. Still, having more in-depth discussion of what’s going on for us noobs is always better.
Thanks for the videos!

I did not get a good view of the cuts or the finished product and when Tommy refers us to his forum I also could not find the post in the forum – I will have to do more digging to find it. The piece was slapped on to the table saw and cut faster than I knew what was happening – I was not sure how the patterned piece of wood is oriented to the table saw or how many passes you get on the tablesaw with that block of wood.
Also, if you are going to introduce a way to make banding it would help to see what it is first – because when the circles were being drawn on the paper I still had no image in my mind of what was being created.
I just think there is an assumption that we are as familiar with what is being shown than what the people in the video already know.
I still really liked it and will watch it again in slow motion – hahaha.

Tommy,
Great video. It has just enough information to get the idea and Freddy’s post on MLW provides all the other information I needed to fill in the gaps. LOL, Think about it. Lunettes are made by filling in hole with more holes.
Jimi-C and Tomas..
You can find Freddy Roman’s treatise on Lunette Banding in Major League Woodworking at the following link. You will have to scroll down to get to Freddy’s posting. Freddy also has several good pictures in his post

Hope this helps.
While you are there, look around. There are additional discussions of inlay, stringing, marquetry and carving under the ‘embellishment’ topic.
