« Part 1: A whole new woodworking video series! Part 2 of Weekend Woodworking w/ Stumpy & The Stash series Part 3: The transforming compartmentalized end table of destiny... »

Stumpy Nubs and Mustache Mike team up for the second in a series of weekly videos featuring small projects for the regular workshop. But this isn’t another show about building birdhouses and cutting boards (not that there’s anything wrong with them :)- Stumpy is showing off his creative side with unique projects you will actually WANT to build!

This week: Stumpy uses his laptop computer in the workshop a lot, so he wanted a way to protect it in style! What he came up with is not just a case, it’s a workstation- with drawers for storage, trays for pencils, paper clips and all his other junk, and a place to stow his mouse and power cord when he wants to take it with him. All in a compact, beautiful maple workstation!

Can't embed videos on Lumberjocks right now, so you'll have to go watch it here. Enjoy! Then come back and leave a comment so we know what you think!

(Friend us on facebook, follow us on Twitter, and visit the Stumpy Store to help support the show!)

Sweet looking laptop station, Stumpy. I am anxious to gain the skills for these projects.

Very Nice Project! And, as for the production of your 2nd weekly shortened video, this ‘ens much, much better. More audio relative to the video. In other words you stuck to telling us what we were watching. I clearly understand you wanna sell your plans, and in this case everybody’s laptops are of many different sizes and thicknesses, but consider sneaking a few more dimensions in, please. The 3/4 re-sawn to 1/4- 1/2” was nice. If you were to suggest some hardware styles and sizes to your liking would be nice. Guess ya can’t recommend sources unless they happen to be spondsers

Kinda reminds me of an old fashioned secretaries desk….
I can’t believe you didn’t make it a roll top!!! ;^)

Nicely done.
Both the attaché case and the video.

Loved the “As the Glue Dries” ....

Keep keepin’ on!!!

Handtooler- No, it isn’t about selling plans, it’s about keeping it short and fast paced. And I do not use sponsors for the show, only the website. That said, I can see how more information would be nice. But then I’d have to cut one or two of the cheesey jokes :)

Overheated laptop in 3 .. 2 .. 1 ..

Maybe just use sparse blocks to hold the laptop in place? Or corner brackets?

Not so, Robyn. The laptop vents from an opening on the rear left. There is a cutout on that side which keeps that vent completely clear.

Gr8 idea to help keep that dust outta the puter. I have a suggestion for ya Stumps…........how bout a backer on that high dollar miter bar to reduce any tearout from cutting those miters. :) That blade came too close to that aluiminum ….. in my opinion. I like the Velcro to help hold the drawers in. You could also add a net or something to hold the wire, mouse, etc. in those compartments. All in all, another winning build from the shop of StumpNubs.

Too close? Nonsense! I’ve only set of my Sawstop brake FOUR times with that fence so far!

The problem with a backer is the flip stop won’t work. And that micro adjustable flip stop feature was the whole reason for buying the fence! Actually, it has to make contact to set off the brake. As long as I check before I cut after making a new adjustment, it’s fine. Problem is, I’ve adjusted the fence and then forgotten to check a few times!

I spent a lot of time trying to figure out the best way to hold those drawers in. Mustache Mike came up with the Velcro idea and I dismissed it at first. Then I realized it was genius!
