The first time I saw a shishi-odoshi was in the movie Kill Bill. It is also called a “deer scarer”, intended to frighten deer and birds from crops with its slow, rhythmic knocking.

Cool project Steve! Bamboo – the organic version of PVC pipe. A million and one uses. :)

Outstanding Steve. Another great project. I love the Kill Bill reference. I was expecting you to say “Silly Rabbet” when you were making the box. If I can round up some bamboo I definitely want to make one of these.

Steve,

I love your stuff. It’s not only entertaining but always something you want to build. I was pretty stressed out this afternoon (another story not worth telling) and I sat and watched your shishi odoshi build. Gonna build one just so I can relax watching it whenver I get stressed. Thanks for sharing.

Ken

Kay- I have heard that deer won’t go near passion flower vines. I don’t mind the deer, but I planted some vines and they are super easy to grow. I agree with the deer though- they stink. They are pretty flowers and are a great attractant for butterflies. I have gulf frittilaries all over the vines.
Sorry to intrude, Steve, but I thought she would like to know.

Steve, When you said “The box falls down on the rabbet” my wife and I turned to each other and said, “Poor bunny!” Stuff like that drives my daughter nuts. Neat project!

Very fun! you probably could have placed a small tub inside and buried it all with the same rocks, avoiding any leaks. Still a great idea.

Actually, the box doesn’t leak. Water seems to run back down the spout when it lifts back up.

That’s a COOL project!

Would tend you make you feel cooler… just listening to the water flow…
... to make it quiet, you could just tape a spounge around the end… LOL

Thank you!

Great video. Fun! I think the first person to sit through the 11 minute meditation video should win something from e replacement parts.com. That being said, they are already winners with their meditation induced karma…
