Picnic didn’t sound right since it was indoors without a grill, so my brother suggested conference.
Anyway, today a group of Southern Michigan LJ (bottom of your palm for the geographically challenged) got together in DeWitt Michigan. KJuly took care of getting us a community building for free.
So we had Jockmike and his wife, BillyJ and his wife, Rustic Rick and his wife, David Craig and his two sons, KJuly and his son, Russ in Michigan and myself.
Some projects were displayed, extra equipment offered, and some wood made available.
As some of you know, Michigan is home to the Big 3; Dominos, Little Ceasar and Hungry Howies (At least they are in the top 10 nation wide) so we had couple LJ take a road trip couple blocks to get a state standard.
After grazing a while the agenda continued to visit to Raven Farm, which is a small lumber mill northeast of Lansing. LJ shopping then went into gear. On second floor or the wood barn, JockMike, BillyJ and myself came across some some really figured box elder in the “shorts” room.
Great time and camaraderie for all.
Steve.

Very cool, I remember biking through DeWitt the last two years on the DALMAC. Good to hear you all had a great time. Didn’t realize this was going down. Was down in my shop sanding a table I’m working on. Hope to cut my first dovetails tomorrow, wish me luck. :-)

I PICKED UP A STANELY JACK PLANE FROM KEITH JULY FOR 15 BUCKS THAT WITH A LITTLE TLC FROM BUDDY DAVID CRAIG IS GOING TO LOOK LIKE NEW. MY WIFE KRIS GOT A COUPLE PUZZLES FOR THE GRANDKIDS FROM STEVE MI AT A VERY GOOD PRICE, AND I PICKED UP A NICE SLAB OF WALNUT AND A COUPLE PIECES OF THAT BEAUTIFUL FIGURED WOOD THAT MAKES YOU GO OH WOW WHEN YOU FIRST SEE IT. TRULY AMAZING. RICK AND NANCY AND DAVID AND HIS 2 YOUNG MEN STOPPED BY THE HOUSE AFTERWARD TO HELP FINISH OFF THE PIZZA AND HAVE SOME COFFEE TO WARM UP BEFORE HEADING HOME. IT WAS GREAT SEEING THE OLD GANG AGAIN, SEEMS LIKE WE HAD JUST SEEN EACH OTHER THE DAY BEFORE, WHAT A GREAT GROUP. CAN’T WAIT TO DO IT AGAIN. MIKE

@Rustic: I would definitely be interested in coming to the next one. I haven’t been on here much in the last couple months. Only just started getting back into my shop recently as well. Always seem to have more time to produce saw dust during the winter months when it’s cold outside. :-)

Sounds like you guys had a great time. Wish I could have made it but to much going on sometimes, life happens, right. I will have to make it to the next one so I can meet the MI LJ alumni.
Any photos?

I’m glad to hear that a good time was had by all. Regretfully, I had to miss this one because of my wife’s knee surgery (she is doing extremely well).
Hope to catch you next time. If any of you are coming U.P. across the bridge next summer let me know.

I TELL YA WHAT RALPH, IF I GET UP THERE I’LL LOOK YOU UP. WE’LL HAVE A GOOD OLE TIME. HOPE THE WIFE HAS A COMPLETE RECOVERY, WE UNDERSTAND, FAMILY ALWAYS COMES FIRST. ESPECIALLY THE MRS.
STILL WISH YOU COULD HAVE BEEN THERE, IT WAS A GREAT TIME WITH GREAT FRIENDS. BILLY J. AND I GOT TO HAVE A GOOD HALF HOUR GAB WHILE WAITING FOR THE PIZZAS, WE BOTH PLAN ON JOINING THE MID MICHIGAN WOOD WORKERS GUILD CENTERED IN DEWITT THAT MEETS ONCE A MONTH STARTING IN JANUARY. THEY SOUND LIKE A GOOD OUTFIT TOO. IF KEITH JULY IS AN EXAMPLE OF THEIR CHARACTER I DON’T THINK WE CAN GO WRONG. MIKE

Mike,
My wife agrees with you and says it all the time…”Your such a character”
You and Billy are welcome at MMWG anytime because it’s people like you and Billy that make the club a success.
Maybe, after David puts a shine on the jack plane you could post a picture of a couple of curls.
Keith
I had a great time and look forward to doing it again soon.
