Tool Reliability... #2: PSI Turncrafter Lathe

03-26-2013 12:54 AM by SteveL | 3 comments »

Not sure, but I think I’ve had this for about 5 years now. The lathe doesn’t spin up right away. Sometimes it doesn’t start and other times, it starts but turns real slowly for a while, then speeds up to full speed. It also seems to lack power when I do get it running. It has a DC motor 1/2 horsepower, 120 VDC, 60 Hz, Class E 1700 RPM. I am assuming that the speed control has gone bad, but can’t be sure. Here’s a photo of the circuit board. Has anyone else had this issue? Is there some kind of industrial strength replacement for this board that I should look into?
