I am an engineer by trade and work in my home shop as a hobbiest. I've been wood working since childhood with my Dad. While I was in college, I worked for my Uncle as a carpenter and plumber.
I am often inspired by something I see on the street, at work, on TV, or on line. Then I go and build it. When I am working in my shop, I am lost in my own world and never happier.
My shop is in the basement of our building, about 12' square and doubles as a laundry room. We live in an apartment with small and odd sized rooms, so I just build furniture to suit. Hope you enjoy the postings from this dumb Chicago polock!

Today, I installed a light, the shop finally feels usable, and the lightbulb is dimmly glowing in my mind. We have been looking for a house for the past year and a half and finally moved just before Thanksgiving. Moving is a bittersweet ex...
It’s been such a beautiful summer that I haven’t spent any time in the shop, and the project has suffered. My wife reminded me this present is way overdue (graduation was in June). That lit a little fire and I got back to work over t...
On my way home from work, the other day, I passed though Grant Park. “The Bowman and The Spearman” sculptures caught my attention. The sculptor did not make the weapons – you have to imagine them. I was inspired to make a bo...
I used a chisel to knock off most of the glue squeeze out. Then I used 80-grit sandpaper on the orbital sander to smooth out the joints on both sides. Nothing makes your arms tingle like using that sander for a good 15 – 20 minutes! Squ...
