I Met LJ Member Dave Mitchell Tonight!

62 days ago by Todd A. Clippinger | 12 comments »

LJ member Dave Mitchell and his wife stopped by tonight. Dave, also known as Splinters, lives in the far northwestern corner of Montana in West Glacier. That is at the western gate of Glacier National Park. He and his wife are traveling to the midwest for a visit with family and they had to come right by my place in Billings, MT. Since I live just spittin’ distance off the freeway and the KOA is just down the street they decided to stop by. Dave is a real Montana kind of guy, a...

Selling Your Crafts & Art on the Internet: My new Strategy with Crosslinked Lumberjocks & Etsy.com

315 days ago by Mark A. DeCou | 30 comments »

There is an ongoing debate about whether Lumberjocks should be the focus of a marketing plan by professional woodworkers. There are quite a few professionals on this site now, all of us trying to make a living. I define “professional” as someone that makes all, or most of their income from their woodworking and craft work. Selling something once in a while from your hobby work really has nothing in common with “having” to sell something every day to buy food and s...

Kreg Pocket Screw Jig

939 days ago by David | 30 comments »

Well, things have been busy at home and at work. I finally got back in the shop today to work on a cherry display shelf for some close friends in Central Oregon. I am using my Kreg Pocket Screw Jig for the joinery. I thought it would be fun to share my day with a small video. Hope you can bear with me as I show you this remarkable jig. I also have a Kreg Foreman, a semi-automatic production machine, but thought the small portable jig would be best for this project. I use this jig a lot i...

Looking for Jock input.

624 days ago by Karson | 68 comments »

In Martins last change to the Lumberjock pages he changed the “Jock” button to “Members”. Wait a minute this is not Lumbermembers it’s LumberJocks. I vote for putting the Jock name back on the button. I don’t know of any Jock or Jockette who has complained about that name. This message is all in good fun, but, I like to be known as Jock. I mean my home page is http://lumberjocks.com/jocks/Karson What do you think?

Building The Holtzapffel Workbench #5: Gluing up the top

625 days ago by Mike Lingenfelter | 10 comments »

This last weekend I was able to get all of the lumber milled up and I started to glue-up the top. Dorje and I did a pretty good job picking out the lumber. There were very few knots I had to deal with. The small ones you might see in the photo are very close to the surface. It’s likely they will be milled out when I flatten the top. Here is the first glue-up. It’s the front of the bench with the dog holes. I also got 2 other sections glued up.You might be asking what that whole is at the ...

Going Pro (the information most dismiss)

679 days ago by Todd A. Clippinger | 27 comments »

Inspired by Odie Odie has been sharing some incredible information with the LJ group. There is more gold in there than many may even realize. An Oblique View Here is some information that does not seem directly related to woodworking success and is often dismissed. But one must understand is that it is about business, not woodworking. So that means the principles of business, marketing, and social psychology apply. Go to the Small Business Administration. They will help you with s...
