My wife and I decided to ditch the tacky plastic door bell chime cover after seeing the one made by dczward here on LJ. This is the one that he came up with and I used his as a jumping off point:

Because of the width of our mechanism I had to change the proportions so that it’s not too wide or long. I added the gentle arch to the bottom like dczward’s but had to put the 1 ” ‘windows’ in pairs on either side of the front. I made mine out of scrap oak although my scrap was kinda scrappy with the board not having any square sides to it. What made the cuts frustrating is that my POS table saw cuts as square as an egg too! The table saw was left in ‘the shed’ (now shop!) when our landlady cleaned out the junk that her father stored in there. Remember Builders Square? This must have been their low end store brand saw. Hey, it’s great for cutting 2×4s! It’ll do until I get a job and can afford a new one. My ‘when I get a job’ list is gettin’ kinda long here!
