I am running very low on the Behandla finish I use on my bowls and food contact items. I found it on Amazon but I can’t believe the price. $328

https://www.amazon.com/IKEA-BEHANDLA-treatment-indoor-001-846-74/dp/B005TG0UPK/ref=sr_1_2_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1471192976&sr=8-2&keywords=behandla

Does anyone live real close to an Ikea store who might be visiting it and see if they still sell it and what the price is? The closest Ikeas are in Detroit and north of Chicago for me. If they have it, I’ll stop in at the Chicogo store when I’m back that way.

Here are some shot of the can of it I bought years ago:

Thanks, Jim

Hey Jim, I found it at an ikea here in Canada, so it must be available there in the U.S.

Thanks for looking. I have found it for 14.99 at one site and 4.99 at another and they both say available in IKEA store only. I cannot buy it on line. I did not see how much volume they were. One place has 12oz. Behandla paint for $14..but in the store only.
I just sent a note on the $328 price to Amazon..it has to be wrong. If they have it, maybe I can order on line

Hi Mrixx. I’ll note that number 500.703.78. It should be the same here. The can I have is the same size.

Cheers, Jim

Holy Smokes !!!
$328.00 smackers for one can ?!
(That would be a lot for a case !)..haha

I wonder if that’s some type of printing error or something ?

That MUST be an ERROR… either that, or someone is trying to really pull a FAST one!

I think Amazon will check it out…

I have, at times, found huge price discrepancies where Seller were obviously trying to gouge the market… On Amazon… I just went elsewhere & ignored them… I should have reported them… but…

You did the correct thing…

Sounds like you’re on track of getting it…

Must be good stuff! ... and lasts a long time on shelf! :)

Have you thought of making your own, Jim? The ingredients are right there: BLO, Mineral Spirits, Woodoil (Walnut Oil?; Danish?). Have you tried Maloof’s system? It’s 2 cans (1 Pint each) – Poly/Oil; Oil/Wax, and runs $25/can or so, widely available. Wonderful stuff for lighter woods, but tends to darken darker species a little too much for my taste.

Thanks Mrkixx,Eric, Joe and Mark.

Hi Joe. I’ll probably hear from Amazon on Monday.

Hi Mark. I don’t get into chemistry. I made some of the Shine Juice from Capt. Eddy once but that is as far as I go. I like them to process it exactly as the last batch so I can count on it. Besides, It would take time away from woodworking!!

Cheers, Jim

Hi Jim, I think that cost of $328 must be a misprint.
I checked on the net. This is the cost in Australia as per this link.

Cliff.

Hi Jim. I checked the Ikea in Bollingbrook, Il. near my house. All they show is a glazing paint or a beeswax finish by Behandla. Doesn’t sound like what you are looking for. Otherwise I could pick it up tomorrow since I’m going to Bass pro shops and Ikea is across the street.

Hi Klaus. Thanks for the offer, but I’ll have to find it here. The shipping and the possibility of not going through customs is just too much.

Hi Cliff. I saw that same ad and it also says available in stores only. I have found it for as little as $4.99 but I went through this Houzz site and got lost in there and never found the info on it.

I’ll have to wait to see what Amazon says about that price. If it comes down to about $15 and they will ship it,, I’ll be good.

Hi Dave, Bollingbrook is where I bought this can many years ago that was the closest to Aurora when I was down there.

My wife just told me there is an Ikea store in Chandler, Az .I just checked and they don’t carry the wood finish- just the paint and polish like Bollingbrook.

Cheers, Jim
