I’m looking for some plans for something similar to the mid century modern dining tables below. Haven’t had any luck searching yet. Any advice on where to look? Thanks.

Milling hickory for handles - 2 replies

I’m getting ready to cut down a couple of hickory trees in my yard and want to mill them to have a good supply on hand for making axe, hammer, shovel, etc… handles. What would be a good dimension to mill the boards to for the best usage. Also, what’s the best method for milling them to get the correct grain orientation for th...

Building solid wood walnut cabinet - 19 replies

I’m planning on building something similar to the cabinet pictured below to go under my tv (hanging on the wall) to hold/hide cords, satellite box, etc… I want to build the whole thing out of solid wood because I have plenty of walnut and I don’t want to buy any walnut veneer sheet when I have plenty of solid stock to use. Is...

Dewalt 734 won't cut more than 1/16th" - 9 replies

I’m sure I’m doing something wrong but I can’t figure it out. The manual says the 734 will cut up to 1/8” on boards less than 6” wide. I planed some walnut last night and was having to plane in 1/16th” increments because the board would hit the frame if I tried to cut 1/8” at a time. There is some adj...

Best base wood for table saw sleds - 13 replies

I have read a bunch of different opinions on what is best to use for table saw sleds. Here’s the consensus I’ve gathered: MDF absorbs moisture too easily and will warp, plywood from Lowes is a terrible product and will warp, Lowes hardwood veneer plywoods have terrible substrate and will chip and separate. So, I’ve basically ...

I picked up a Delta bandsaw 28-245 and a Grizzly jointer G0452 yesterday off craigslist for what I felt like was too good of a deal to pass up. I don’t know a whole lot about these 2 pieces of equipment but I have a delta table saw and love it and I know Grizzly it pretty reputable so I figured I would go for it. I’m now trying to ...

What thickness to mill lumber - 10 replies

I plan to start milling some lumber from trees on my property. Should I try to mill a good mixture of 4/4, 6/4, 8/4 etc… or should I mainly stick with one thickness that is useful in most applications? Thanks.

Preventing cupping in green hard maple - 7 replies

I just purchased a chainsaw mill and plan to mill some maple from logs I’ve cut off my property. I’ve already had some milled by a local sawmill. He cut a few thick slabs for me for a coffee table. The rest he cut into 1×8s and they’ve warped pretty badly over the past month and a half while drying in the garage. It stays ...

Attaching red oak table top to steel frame - 6 replies

I am finishing up staining my red oak table top and I’m trying to decide how I want to attach it to the steel frame. The table top thickness is only about 1” thick so I’m considering either using short wood screws or using epoxy to put some threaded insert in it and use short bolts. I will slot the steel to allow for movement...

Radial arm saw usability - 26 replies

As a fairly new woodworker I’m trying to build up my woodshop with the proper tools, etc… I found an old dewalt radial arm saw for sale on craigslist in my hometown for what I think is a good price. I’ve never used a radial arm saw before but have researched them. Is a radial arm saw a handy tool in the woodshop or is it som...

Finishing a barnwood dining table - 5 replies

I am building a red oak dining table with wood salvaged from a barn built in the 40’s (if my info is correct). I have planed the wood and it looks beautiful. I want to make the colors pop but also want to get a good seal since we’ll be consuming beverages and meatstuffs on it. What would you guys recommend?
