I worked in the auto business for many years in my youth, later in the insurance industry. I am now retired and disabled to the point where I can no longer restore old cars and build hot rods. I have always wanted to work with wood more than just building storage shelves and simple benches. I have acquired an old tablesaw, and mitersaw, and bandsaw, along with several various power sanders and my dad's old 1/4" benchtop drill press. I am working mostly with pine to get a feel for the equipment and material, just the basics. I hope in time to have the skills worthy of the investment in hardwoods. At this point it looks to me like learning joinery is key, along with critical, consistent measuring are essential to good looking strong projects. Also, the ability to think several steps ahead and see it in your mind will keep mistakes minimized.
I hope the seasoned veterans of woodworking can be patient with a noob running around asking questions that have already been asked over and over. I do promise to research for a reasonable time first before posting dumb questions.
Thanks for having me aboard and reading my profile.

I follow Darbin Orvar on Youtube and built the stool that she featured last year. i even tried something new to me, distressing a painted finish. I used the leftovers of the Teal Green bench that I made previously, and top coated it with leftove...
For a while over the winter, it seemed like I was doomed to building bluebird houses forever. All of the ones that I made were copies of one in our back yard that has a proven track record. Last year it housed bluebirds through three cycles of eg...
I just decided to take up wood working a little over a year ago due to health reasons. I could not continue with my past hobbies, so I decided to take up WW late in life. I know that I will never get the years of experience needed to accomplish ...
