From table legs to mallet heads #1: Recycling is fun

I found these table legs at a “repo” property I was inspecting for the bank. They were tossed aside for trash. When I picked them up for a closer look, I couldnt believe how heavy they were. I have been looking for some wood to make a couple mallet heads and thought these would work pretty well. I have no idea what wood this is, but it is very dense and heavy. I will be getting some handle material in the next couple days.
