What should be the last step of a spray finish? - 9 replies
So…I got myself one of the HF HVLP guns. Spraying Deft gloss lacquer on walnut cabinets. Nothing like trying your first spray project on a full set of cabinets. But, I guess I am unsre of the “last step”. Should the last step be wet sanding, one last light spray coat, waxing? Some other step? I have been spraying outside...

Best Value in Dust Collection - 23 replies
So, my several year old Delta AP400 has been acting up for a while. Seems like half the time I switch it on, the motor just hums, and doesn’t “turn over” in full suction mode. Since I’m really not Mr Mechanical Fix It Guy, I am not sure what sort problem it is. I know it has a 30 micron filter bag, and 1 HP motor. Think...

I was looking to take advantage of LV free shipping offer. The small and mini router planes have caught my eye. I like the idea of the 1/8” blade in the mini router, but it looks so small. I would be using this plane on small projects, with shallow mortises or dadoes in approximate 1/4” or narrower range. Is the mini a practical ...

As I begin to take a larger and larger interest in hand tools, there are many things to catch my eye. I am kind of like a monkey drawn to shiny things in that way. Are skew and or dovetail chisels needed tools that can make the journey to hand cut dovetails easier, or are they just an overpriced non essential marketing gimmick? I know it can ...

I am looking into getting another set of chisels. I have a set or two already, but nothing of any real quality. I have the yellow stanleys that I like to beat on, because sometimes I just like to beat on stuff. I have a set I got at the woodworking show a year or two ago. Not even sure of the brand, some sort of chinese stuff. But these are...

Can Mahogany Be Safely Burnt In Fireplace? - 5 replies
I have been using african mahogany on my most recent project. Starting to accumulate lots of little pieces. Usually I give all most too small to use off cuts to my mom, to burn in her woodburning fireplace. However, I have always given her domestics. Just pitched other more exotic offcuts. Since there will be quite a bit, I would hate to se...

Wood movement question - 8 replies
I am just beginning to build a king bed, put it off for about one yr. Kind of a big project for my one car garage shop. The post and frame will be of african mohagany, with a nice ribbon pattern to it. I am looking at posts of roughly 3 3/8” square. I glued/laminated three 5/4” boards to get the thickness. I am not overjoyed at t...

scms choice - 5 replies
Hello LJs, I have lurked on your site for some time and I appreciate all of the inspiration and knowledge that has has been shared here. As I am not too computer savy, so I was always hesitant to join, but I finally jumped in. I have been wanting a scms for some time, just never really been able to justify the steep price for how often I may a...
