Here’s a few sketch pencils that also take a mini pen insert. 1 & 4 are acrylic. 2 is corian. 3 is jatoba. I got the components from PSI. The first was my first attempt at an acrylic other than corian. I like turning the corian better, but finishing is still many times easier than wood.

Buckeye Burl Majestic

This is my newest pride and joy, and the flagship of my new site – http://chathampenworks.com/. Had to figure a way to support this pen turning addiction. :-) I was lucky enough to be a tester for a new blank stabilizer, http://www.lazerlinez.com/, and I am most happy with the results. The blank is clear Buckeye Burl, finished with CA/BLO. It’s on a full-sized Majestic in Platinum & 22kt Gold.

I finally picked up a few fountain pens to try. They’re all Jr. Gents. All are finished with BLO/CA. The first is ebony. The second is sapele. Third is paduak. The ebony id my favorite, as I think the blank and the copper set each other off just right.

I found the Bright Copper Sedona kits on sale a few weeks ago, and wish I’d bought more.

1. The first is Olive Wood. I was a bit dissapointed when the dark figure turned off of the lower barrel, but I still like the way it turned out.

2. Second is Bone Corian. This one was an 80th birthday present for a neighbor, and was very well recieved.

3. The last is in Paduak. I love the way the burnt orange collor sets off the copper kit.

As always, all comments and critiques are welcome. If you see something wrong, let me know. That way I can fix it on the next go ‘round.
Thanks for looking,
Sef

It was an oversized blank, with deep cracks everywhere. I was able to fill them with CA, and I think it worked out.

Mom's Majestic Jr.

This was a departure for me, as it was my first premium pen kit. It’s a Majestic Jr. Black TN/Platinum Rollerball. I was unsure of the wood, but guys on the IAP helped me figure that it is most likely Jatoba (Brazilian Cherry). It’s finished in 8 or 10 coats of BLO/CA, MMed to 12000, then hit with the buffing wheels. My pics don’t do it justice, but this is by far my best work to date. I am very proud of this one. More importantly, Mom loves it. I’ve spoiled her, by giving her some kind of Swarovski crystal every Mother’s Day for about a decade now, and the Majestic Jr. even has a Swarovki crystal in the clip!

They’re all single barrel, and you twist the nib to extend the refill. The long barrel can be a bit more difficult to do, but I think the flowing lines are worth it.

1. Rosewood and copper
2. Pink Ivory and chrome
3. Olive Wood and gunmetal
4. Olive Wood and black

Turned out a pen and a perfume atomizer. I have to do a better job of turning down to the bushings, but I’m happy with them, all things considered. Thanks for looking.
Sef

My firs turnings. Pens, Pencils, & Key Chains

These are the products of my first time using a lathe (Shopsmith :-) ). All the pens and pencils are slimlines. There’s oak, cedar, mahogany, and an I don’t know. The dark one was the only wood I bought, and I forgot to ask what it was. It’s almost a dark purple, and is hard as a rock. The rest of the wood was once someone else’s furniture. Any and all comments welcome.
Thanks for looking,
Yussef
