So I had to wait another day after re glueing my palm box back together. After I got the clamps and tape off, this is what I was faced with. I don’t like sanding glue. Ok, one step back, now two steps forward. After Re sanding the lid...

I've always loved wood. Lately, I have found myself spending more and more time in the shop, fiddling around with different pieces of wood.
My brother in law got me started turning pens by giving me a lathe. Now I'm hooked.
I came up with an idea the other night on how to make a box out of a scrap piece of 2X4 I had laying in the shop. The next thing I know, it's 2am. I had every piece cut for my box, or so I thought. I glued it up wrong and the pieces didn’t get lined up square, it was a mess (see project http://lumberjocks.com/projects/57833).
After some very much appreciated constructive criticism from friends (buddies), I immediately started another one. I'm having fun and learning at the same time. I look forward to sharing many projects with you.
-- I'll get it done when I get a-round-tuit.

I loved the palm boxes I saw being made before Christmas. With no original wood working ideas or experience of my own, I have to copy. Plus I was running out of money for hardware on the other boxes and the palm boxes didn’t need any hardwar...
After sanding, conditioning, and staining, I decided to try shelac. It worked fine. Shelac is a lot different than lacquer or polyurethane. I’m still experimenting with the finishes. (LOL, I’m still experimenting with everything). ...
I moved on and finished the box. I cleaned up the joints, sanded and added a little filler. The lid is some kind of hardwood and I really wanted to see it finished. These are before and after sanding shots on the lid. I condi...
I ended up with a very large spline after playing with the jig. No worries, this is my pallet wood pile to practice with. As far as I can tell, this is a pine box with cedar splines, top, and bottom. My first attempt at routing an edge, lot...
