Well this afternoon I was finally able to remove the original faceplate and install the new PSI chuck. I can’t really compare it to others but it seems to be pretty nice and only took me 30 minutes to figure out how to open and close the jaws. :P Finally it was on and I had a section of this weird bright orange with white streak wood (anyone have an idea of what kind this is? I know…pictures…)
Anyway. NOW I understand all the warnings about face protection and respirators and flying objects. Apparently the wood became unstable and (I think) I was using the skew chisels (which freaks me out anyway) and I notice some strange harmonic sound/vibrations right before the lathe fired the piece of wood out of my little shed/shop and into the yard. Fortunately I was facing the end and it missed me.
I think I’ll start really listening and taking heed to warnings. haha
