Well this afternoon I was finally able to remove the original faceplate and install the new PSI chuck. I can’t really compare it to others but it seems to be pretty nice and only took me 30 minutes to figure out how to open and close the jaws. :P Finally it was on and I had a section of this weird bright orange with white streak wood (anyone have an idea of what kind this is? I know…pictures…)

Anyway. NOW I understand all the warnings about face protection and respirators and flying objects. Apparently the wood became unstable and (I think) I was using the skew chisels (which freaks me out anyway) and I notice some strange harmonic sound/vibrations right before the lathe fired the piece of wood out of my little shed/shop and into the yard. Fortunately I was facing the end and it missed me.

I think I’ll start really listening and taking heed to warnings. haha

Wow, close one. It’s scary how lucky we get sometimes, glad you’re ok.

Thanks. Funny how so often we don’t listen to good advice BEFORE something happens. :) I definitely need to work on balancing the pieces first.

Just an update on this but I’ve since returned the PSI chuck and bought a Nova G3 instead. (the jaw gears popped out of the Barracuda) So far so good with the Nova and I know a lot of people like them. Time will tell. (oh and I finally got a full face mask too) haha
