I got a plan for a scoop that is chip carved in a carving magazine called hand carved Christmas gifts Volume 2 this is the start of the whole carving process. These PICs are the rought out that I have started. This is my 3rd carving ever and it is my very 1st from scratch. Part 2: Starting to shape the scoop

Now that we have the rough out, we can begin to shape the scoop. Don’t mind the hole in the scoop this piece is for reference only after we have the general shape that we want I took it over to the drill press and bored a 5/8ths inch hole to my desired depth Sorry for the poor quality of the photo, was just trying to get the best shot of the hole.The plan calls for a 1/4 inch #5 spoon gouge to carve the hole.
