Out of commission for a few days

Hey Guys and Gals

Just found out that I will be out of commission for a few days next week. I am having a laser procedure done on my left eye. Last week at a routine eye appointment they found a “freckle” on my left eye. There is a blood vessel growing from that freckle and is causing distorted vision. The name of this is called ocular histoplasmosis.
They are going to remove the blood vessel. It will not restore my vision to normal. It will only stop it from growing worse.

They told me that it is caused from being around chickens. That was over 20 years ago.

Anyways I am in the shop the rest of this week to get as much done as possible before I get this done.

Just wanted to let you know to keep me in your prayers.

Thanks

What's happening in my shop?

I have been busy getting ready for an open house at the craft mall. Starting to get Christmas gifts un the works. I have made more foot stools, and candle holders.

I have also attended my 1st West Michigan Woodworkers Guild meetinig. I am paying my dues next month. I really enjoyed it. It was held at Johnsons Workbench. The room was full with more name tags that were not picked up. I was welcomed into the folds of the guild like I have been there all the time. It is sooo nice to be among friends who have a common interest. Sort of like Lumberjocks, but different.

I am also in the process of cleaning my shop (as always).

Just thought that I would keep ya posted. Pics of the foot stools to come tomorrow.

These are the final pics of the craft table I made for my wife. The First one shows how she is using it and the decorative carrying handle. The second is a pic of the leg levelers I bought from Rockler. I learned that you should test fit the leg leveler assembly before you fix them permanently. As you may have some that are stripped out. Luckily I took the one that was stripped back to Johnson’s Workbench and they replaced it free of charge.

It was a nice project to build. I would love to make more of them.

Latest project

Hey Guys and Gals,

Well SWMBO has spoken again. She wants me to make her a craft table with folding legs. I went and got the hardware for the legs. I did at one time have a set of matchong cherry legs. (I don’t anymore). So I came up with some 2×2 material I had sitting around waiting for this project.

She picked out the wood: 3/4 inch oak ply with oak sides, she wanted 1×2 for the sides and I talked he in to 1×4 (would conceal the legs better. So that is my next big project and if it works I may build a few more for craft shows.

So I will be starting on that this week should have it done in one day. She does not want it to be too complicated to build.

Hey Guys and Gals,

Well tomorrow is the big LJ get together in Michigan. I am sooo looking forward to it. I have built two new projects to show off. and have a design dilema for the guys to help me with. The better half and I can’t wait to meet everyone and tour the saw mill. She told me that I could go out and get some wood yesterday, but I told her that I am waiting for Sunday to get my wood. (she wasn’t thinking). So I also have some plans that I bought that are extras so if anyone wants them take them. I am also bringing some veneer.

So all in all, We are very excited to be able to attend. Will post pictures later in the week.

My Ramblings

In the process of planning the Michigan Picnic coming up, my lovely wife thought that it would be great to have an Inernational lumberjock event. I agree, but just the logistics of the whole thing scares the hell out of me. Who would come, what to bring, where to have it and so on. I know I for one would go to it. Maybe someday we could pull it off. For now I am content with meeting with my fellow LJ’ers from Michigan. Well I guess I got that out. Back to getting myself ready for our picnic. Thanks guys and gals

Big Thank You to all the Lumberjocks

This is a big thank you to not just the LJ’s who helped me with my CMS question, but to all of you. I guess I was having a bad day when I posted a question about my CMS, or just had a MASSIVE brain fart. You guys gave me some suggestions that I should have already known, but some how forgot (old age). I was able to clean up my cuts by just adding a piece of 1/8 inch plywood to my fence. Not only did it help with tear out, but I am able to make a more accurate cut every time. I know, I know I am a woodworker and should have known. But with my question, you guys were very helpful and knowledgeable. You guys also gave me food for thought when I have some money and can sharpen or buy a new saw.

Just talke to Jockmike2 and we are still on. We just need to get a final head count so we can plan the food. Mikee and his wife are bringing Sloppy Joe and wedding potatoes. My wife and I are bringing some burgers and dogs, and also coffee. Anyone need unleaded? We would like it if someone could bring some chips and plates and silverware. I also just found out that we cannot bring alcohol into the park. Mike will be bringing a few things that he has done as well as some tools that he would like to raffle off and I am going to bring some veneer that Tearen gave me that I don’t have a use for right now. I may bring a few things to show off as well. Feel free to do the same. Did I forget anything Mike? Anyways guys let us know who is coming.

Hey Michigan Lumberjocks

The date is the 25th of October the place is Hawk Island County Park on East Cavanaugh Road Lansing. If you are coming from Grand Rapids area take I-96 to exit 104 toward Holt/cedar st, merge on to I-96 Bus, turn right at s pennsylvania ave. the turn right on cavanaugh rd. For those coming from other areas. Just type in Hawk Island County Park Lansing to google and get directions. Or if you would like pm me and I will get you the directions. Start time is 1 pm. After talking it over with Jockmike we decided that we probably won’t have beer there as we are going to the sawyers, and for the simple fact that we are all coming from different areas and probably shouldn’t drink and drive. If you want to bring beer that is up to you. We will have pop and coffee there. If you could also bring a dish to pass that would be great too. So far we have 7 people confirmed. Post on this blog what you can bring so I can coordinate the food. Thanks to all.
