Hey Rick, I’m over here on the east side (Ann Arbor), but I’d wouldn’t mind driving to meet up with other LJs in Michigan. Count me in!

I am all for this also Rustic. Should not be hard to just schedule a park pavilion or something in the spring or summer. We could also put together a list of discussion items. Each person could possibly bring current projects, unique shop jigs they developed, or anything else of interest. We could also do a material swap that day also.
-Just some idea for everyone to start pondering!

Hey Rick, I’m over in Royal Oak (just north of Detroit), but I’d be willing to drive across the state if the scheduling worked out. I hope you’re keeping a list so you can let us know when you set something up.

Wow I didn’t expect this kind of response. Hey Tearan want to help me organize this? I can see this getting too big for one person to handle.
Hey Karson, you are invited as well :-)

Thought I would throw this out to the LJ’s attached to this blog. If you are looking for veneers for your projects, or even hardwoods start putting you needs into this blog. As we get closer to the event we can start the swapping process. Why pay for materials when you can trade for them!

I’m down in St. Joseph but in the process of moving. By May I should be in Manistee, Mi. Hopefully that would still qualify as Western michigan. I would be intersedted in joining the party.

I’m in the U.P., in the middle of the Hiawatha National Forest. However, driving North on I 69, it is easy to get confused at the junction of 69 and 96 in Lansing and end up in Grand Rapids.

Does anyone need any cherry or maple/curly maple? I need to free up some space in my garage and would love to have someone stop by and take it off my hands. The pieces are 6 to 8 feet long and 1”x1” and larger. I can cut the pieces in half if you don’t have a van/truck. The wood is furniture grade and works great for cutting boards, pens, inlays, etc. I have a stack about knee high and 5ft wide…. Lots of material…
I also have some bundles of curly veneer to go along with it.
How much you ask! Free of course! Well, maybe a future favor or a couple interesting pieces of wood.
I live in Jenison, MI . Send me a message and we can setup a time for you to pick up the material.

At the moment, I could go with any weekend other than Memorial Day as well; Saturday or Sunday. I’d suggest that you wait a couple days and then make a decree. For me, that will make it a lot easier to put in my calendar and cut down the amount of time to get a date. The sooner we have a date, the less opportunity to schedule something else. Today, any weekend will work. Tomorrow may be different.

Rick:
Please permit me to suggest Lansing rather than Grand Rapids. With the junctions of 127. I96 and I69, it would offer easy access to a larger group of Michigan LJ’s. The area also has a lot of motels and things for the wives to do. It’s a six hour drive for me but I would come.
Sleepy Hollow State Park is just North of Lansing and has two picnic shelters, reservable for $50 per day. http://www.stateparks.com/sleepy_hollow.html

party of the problem is that i don’t have the cash to reserve a spot at a park. We can also do one in the fall in a different location. We have motels nearby here. about 5 minutes away.

Just thought that I would let everyone know that time is of the essence. We need to get a count of everyone who will be attending so we know how much food to prepare.
