The following is a safety warning to all turners out there. Make sure to check the wood over carefully before turning. I thought I did that but this happened:

It was a piece of cherry that had a knot on the side of it that I did not see before starting to turn. I roughed it to round at a low speed, then turned up the speed, before I could get my tool in hand the piece blew up and the smaller piece hit me inn the chest at about 900 rpms.

Lesson learned, inspect all pieces before turning

You were real lucky, Rick. I don’t think epoxy would have kept that together!

This actually happened last week. It just knocked the wind out of me.

Glad your ok. Some lessons are worth a bruise or two if your still in one piece!

I’m glad that you’re ok. You were very fortunate not to be seriously injured.

Sheesh! Glad you’re alright. You’ll just have to make a smaller bowl, and maybe more of them. :)
