I’m excited this morning. I am going to spend the day reclaiming a wall in my shop which has been full of drywall and about 3’x10’ was unusable .
I sold the remaining drywall and now all I have to do is remove some old wood and I have gained max 30 sq ft.
This will give me a spot to install my DC and have it close to the tools that need it most.
I have a shroud coming for my miter saw and the TS has it’s own dedicated shop vac.
Abrinet abrasives for the ROS also cuts down on dust by 90%.
I may introduce an air filtration system to keep the air borne particles down.
The reason I’m doing this is that I’ve been coughing a lot lately. Coughing so hard I pull muscles under my ribs.
I do smoke, but this doesn’t feel like it has anything to do with that. I feel like I’m coughing up saw dust, cedar to be exact. Then I thought about all the time I spend using a ROS without a mask and it all adds up.
So DC for everything.

Russell,
Sorry to hear about hour coughing. I worked a summer for a woman building cedar bird feeders. She was doing well in the business (had the feeders in a nationwide chain) but then developed an allergy to cedar. It was funny to see her in the white “moon” suit with nothing but her face showing. Then she had to give it up.
I find myself in a similar situation, every time I go into the shop my sinuses explode. I hope better dust collection and air filtration will help.

Cedar kicks my butt. I love the way it looks but its not worth the hassle for me to use it.

Russell, You probably don’t want to hear this but….... smoking impairs your lungs abilities to clear dust and crud from them so it magnifies the effects of breathing dust. I quit several years ago (one of the toughest things I ever did but I’m glad I did it). Now If I could just give up the Skoal!
