The “I need more room” button below this text box is taunting me…

I live in a small, two bedroom apartment with my wife and our 11 year old son. Space, unsurprisingly, is at a premium here. Because it’s an apartment, and we’re upstairs to boot, I go for handtools only around here. If I really need it my dad has a tablesaw in his garage, about 15 minutes away.

My wood “workshop” consists of some of the free space between my itty-bitty kitchen and my itty-bitty dining room. There’s just enough space to keep a 1’ x 2’ (yes, 12×24 inches) bench and still allow usability of this end of the house. The wife likes the look of the old tools so I’m allowed to keep them on it as decoration, unless we need to use the bench as a serving table during the holidays. I don’t know why, but wherever there’s a table there’s at least one pair of my wife’s shoes under it…

The other part of my workspace is tucked away in what used to be the vanity of the master bedroom. My wife calls it my “tweaker closet”, I call it “the Lab”. That’s where I play with electronics and robots and stuff, store my less-used toys, and keep the rest of my minuscule tool collection and lumber. Obviously to use this room I have to clear it out first. You can tell by the attached photo that I haven’t actually used it much lately.

Oh, and please forgive the phone pictures. The real camera needs a new battery.

Heh, I can certainly appreciate that… At least I don’t share my apartment, so I get to use my 2nd bedroom lol
