During the Greene & Greene coffee table class I attended a few weeks ago, William Ng gave us an impromptu lesson in scraper sharpening. Fortunately I had my Flip Cam at the ready and captured this tutorial for your enjoyment.
William uses Takenoko 4,000 and 8,000 grit sharpening stones and you can pick those up in his store. How do you like that fancy water bath?
Looking for a small set of card scrapers? Check this out:Cabinet Scraper...

After posting my Woodworker’s CNC Router in the projects section, I received several requests to show how I made it. I debated whether to post something here or just send them off via a bunch of links. I decided to show you the journey that I took over several years and ended up with the machine that was posted. So here goes.
Do you need one? No.Should you build one? Probably not.Have I done anything useful with it? Not really. Is it cool? Oh yeah.
In 2004 I stumbled on an Inte...

If enough of you are interested, I could do a blog on financial planning for the self employed wood worker. I was a self employed broker and financial planner until health problems forced me into early retirement.
This will be basic planning only. Nothing complex or eccentric. Also, no personal situations will be covered and no personal advice given. There are legal reasons for this. In our overly litigious society, I’m sure you can all understand the reasons for my stance on th...

Well I just turned 17 years old today, February 23, 2011, and I have always wanted to make a CNC router. So for my birthday, I asked my dad to get me a CNC hardware and plans kit from www.buildyourcnc.com. Then I went to Lowes and the Home Depot to get a sheet of MDF, aluminum angles, threaded rods, and various other items I needed to make the machine. So the whole weekend last week, I’ve been working on cutting all the parts I need and then drilling all the holes in the pieces. Here is...

Well today I didn’t have school due to a snow day, so I figured I would work on my CNC some more. I knew that I needed a stand to put the CNC on and to make it sturdier, so I was off to Google SketchUp! I wanted to make the CNC about counter height, so I made the stand 34 1/2” high plus the 1 1/2” table of the CNC makes it 36” high overall. Here is the simple design that I came up with using 2×4s for the stand:
So I was off to making saw dust!First, I cut f...

I’ve got my own site where I like to write about my projects so rather than duplicate them here I’ll just provide a little teaser. If you’d like to read the full post just click here.
I haven’t quite finished the Jeweler’s Bench project but the boss really wants to upgrade our entertainment center now that we’ve got a nice new TV and furniture in the basement. We looked around for one to buy but just didn’t find anything we really liked. Then I started searching for some ...

MaFeBurnisher BLOGscraper set up tool
Ok I posted the project, and here are the blog, since there seems to be some wishes for that now…
If there are wishes, I’ll make a work drawing with measures, but I think it’s quite ‘out the road’.(And thank you, I’m better today, so I could spend a little quality time in the work shop 2×40 min.).
The project comes from different ideas I have seen around, and the fact I’m not all happy for my VERITAS...

Oops! began as an idea about outside the box hinges. I’ve always liked the “box on stand” idea but had never tried one so that sort of fell into place and one of the first ideas I had about box decoration was a “spill” pattern. I sketched these on a bit of paper at the kitchen table one day and it was left there.
Last December I restored an old ShopSmith 10 ER and had been wanting to see how good a tool it really was and what kind of precision I could achieve...

I make telescopes. This is my first big one. O, so its not so big, its only 12” in diameter, and big (to me) is 20”. But its big enough for me, and something that I have wanted to do since I was a kid.
It will be completely functional, and it will also (eventually) be tricked out in the Steampunk style – brass, wood, gears and fancy stuff.
This is a close up of an older version of what I am making.
This is what I have so far. Its held together with clamps right no...
