I started woodworking a few years ago when my wife and I needed more storage space in our kitchen. Dissatisfied with much of the furniture available within our budget I decided to make a pantry out of pine with thin panels. I used a borrowed circular saw and hand drilled my own pocket holes without a jig (I didn't even know what a jig was!). A few mistakes were made and I learned a lot; number one being that I could actually make my own furniture! We've since moved to a more perminent house and are starting to make it more of a home by adding pieces of furniture etc that we actually want to have. Before it was simply a mix-match from our single years. I'll post my re-furnishing process here as I really appreciate being able to see what others have done. Lumberjocks is a great site for education and inspiration. I'm glad to be here.

I substituted my cheap temporary construction lumber jaws for some good ash jaws. I’m so glad I practiced first because originally the jaws were about 1/8th below the bench top surface. Now they are flush. You can also see that I added ...
My bench costs rose slightly today. I bought some lag bolts to attach the top to the base. $3.50. Let’s see, about 60 in wood, 65 for the vise, a bottle of glue; I figure I’m close to $135 into this so far. I still have to get some...
I’ve been working on a new bench and thought I’d share the progress in case anyone is interested. I read Scott Landis’ Workbench book and a few excerpts from the Swartz’s book and I’ve come up with this. I’ve ...
