I just finished the shadow box for the Open Hands I carved awhile back .

This is my 1st carving and a gift for my Brother in law ,My sister in law “passed away” In January , The Rose was on her casket, she was 41 and left behind two daughters one being 8 yrs old and the other is 23.
Laura passed away suddenly from a blood clot to the heart …one day she was here spreading joy to everyone the next day God welcomed her home .

Woods used = Steamed figured Cherry ,Purple Heart & Curly/Tigerstriped Buckeye
The hands are suspended a 1/2” off of the crushed Velvet “her Favorite color was purple”
The Box Is 18 1/4” x 15 1/4” X 4 1/4”

This coming Sunday would be her birthday and I thought that would be a good day to give it to my brother
inlaw .

I’m going to mount it on the Blue velvet thats in the pictures and make a free form frame for it , I was going to put it in a shadow box but i suggested it could also go in a picture type frame and my brother liked that idea better, he felt it would be seen better.
I will post more pictures when its finished.

Artists say hands are the hardest thing to do , I believe it now!!!

Here’s some wine bottle stoppers I made for gifts

woods used = left to right -Sapele/Maple burl top, Maple/Walnut, Madrone/Purpleheart top, Purpleheart/Maple burl top, Thuya

These are some pen cases I made that when opened they serve as a pen holder/display and when closed serve as a case their hinged on one end with brass pins.

woods used- Maple sides with Padauk – Redheart – Bubinga – walnut/burl – Spalted maple…. bodies

I would like to claim the whole idea but I modified this design from one I saw online ….It did take some head scratching to figure out how it was made!!!

The pens in the cases are not the ones that go with the cases …I just used them for taking the pictures , The cases were made before the pens =I did make pens to match each case and each was made to order!

Most of these were givin as gifts and sold the rest!!! I’m getting Alot of requests for more and will be selling them with the option to have them engraved…

I made these for my Sisters & Brothers inlaw for Christmas , They stand 11” tall =Maple & Walnut with Maple & Walnut Burl tops.

These S&P Mills are the 1st ones I made, They twist from the middle although you fill them from the top
Woods are Maple Burl & Walnut Burl with Plume agate stone for decore (I do lapidary work also)

Heres a set of S&P mills and a wine bottle stopper (The Ice Cream scoop I already posted & gave them for thanksgiving). I made these for my Parents inlaw for Christmas . The mills are 12” tall Walnut & Maple .

On the bottle stopper I like the pattern , it reminds me of a wine glass

Just a little somethin somethin I gave my mother inlaw for Thanksgiving.
She tried it and loved it .

Solid Brass with a Maple & Walnut handle = Reminds me of Fudge Ripple ice cream…so I thought it would be a good combination for this project.

This is a frame I did for a friend not to long ago I also made one for my Mom & Dad.
Woods – Birdseye Maple,Padauk& Yellowheart.

This is a frame I made awhile back for my niece.
woods used -Maple, Walnut, Padauk, Purpleheart & yellowheart.

This plaque is Utah Picture sandstone.
Its supost to look like rolling hills.
When designing this piece I tried to match the wood grain (top & bottom)with the picture in the stone , in other words It looks like a road at the bottom of the stone I wanted the wood grain to flow into the road and if you look at the sky I tried to match the grain with the sky .

stone is 10”x10” over all plaque size is 14”x14”
woods used are Walnut & Birch

I just finished this bowl today Its 11”x4 1/2” tall

Woods used- Bowl is Box Elder with a Red Heart foot/base
Finish is wipe on poly then Beal buffed

3/16 rim thickness and is 1/4 + at the foot

The stone is Graveyard Plume Its approx 10” x 10” x 1 1/4’ thick .It has gold veins running through it that you can’t see in the pics .
Wood is Maple burl.

Orthoceras is fosillized Squid approx. 300 million years old. On the second plaque I wanted them to look a though their coming out of the wood .
Woods used are Myrtle & Walnut

I was asked by ND2Elk to make some pens . (he picked 1,2,3 & 4)
They are modified Slimlines.
1=Curly Maple/ blackwood band (2 Pics same pen)
2=Koa/Purpleheart band
3=Blackwood/ Arylic gold/blk band
4=Hawaiian Quinsama/Acrylic blk band (I think thats how its spelled might be saua)
5=Pheasant wood/Walnut band

This is my 1st completely segmented project = Salad bowl for my wife for Easter .

I’ll be making 4-6 smaller bowls & some Utensils = 2 forks & a large spoon that will go with this main bowl (after Easter)

It measures 14 1/2 inches in circumference/ round & 6” inches tall

Woods used Maple & Walnut

Finish Used Boiled Linseed Oil / Carnuba wax /Buffed with the Beal sys.

I noticed using oils on lighter woods (Maple etc. ) seems to make the seams more noticable because the oil soaks into the end grain more than the flat sawn or quartersawn sides.( I used Titebond 3 water resistant glue )
I was very pleased with the tightness of the joints over all but a little disappointed with the effects that the oil did were the pieces are joined together.
If you have any tips to combat this issue I’d appreciate it ????

I made this for my wifes work , A fellow employee had to go to Iraq and was one of the 1st to take over Sadam Husains palace .This flag was flown on top of palace .

Its made from Steamed Quilted Cherry,Walnut and curly Maple, I used crushed Navy blue velvet inside with a beveled glass front. The frame inside the box is suspened 1 1/4” off of the velvet.

I made this Shadow box for my father inlaw .The book is signed by Ronald Reagan.
Its made out of Cherry,Walnut& Curly Maple .

Slimlines=Lychee- Dragonseye/blk acrilic band,Curly Maple/Purpleheart and black wood bands, Masur Birtch /Walnut band the rest are Acrilic.
On the Green pen I made that for a customer that has Carpal Tunnel in her writing hand so I thought I’d make a larger one ,Its surprisingly comfortable to write with!
