Location: Tehachapi, CA

I live in beautiful Tehachapi, Ca, where I enjoy various outdoor activities such as horseback riding, and tennis. But for the most part my time is spent in my workshop making all sorts of woodworking projects. I have really fallen in love with whirligigs (a sort of wind toy that uses a breeze to turn some moving part), in particular WWI airplane whirligigs. My love of building WWI whirligigs all started when my wife and I moved to Tehachapi Ca and noticed right away that there is almost always a steady breeze blowing. Once I had my workshop up and working again, I started experimenting with wind toys to take advantage of the constant breeze. And thats where Ricks Whirligigs were born. My whirligigs all have free spinning propellers that only need the slightest breeze to turn, also I mount them on a rod and the tail section of the airplane acts as a weather vane, so the nose is always seeking the wind. Since the first whirligig was made I've had a blast making other WWI airplanes. I have perfected numerous models from the era, if your interested in purchasing one visit
I’m not looking to make a profit on this little operation, so you will find my planes are very under priced. I just enjoy building them and helping people share in the fun of a WWI whirligig.

Very cool. I have not gone to the “AIR” yet even though I am a frustrated pilot. Guess I will run tractors for awhile yet.

Really impressive looking planes you made.

Being a fan of old WW1 aircraft myself, I want to make a Sopwith Camel and a Fokker Dr1 for my sons. Will definitely lean on your projects for inspiration.

Nice work
