A few years back, I had a Delta 46-715 lathe. It had a 40” bed and a 14” swing. It wasn’t the nicest lathe but it really did get the job done. The only drawback was that it took a huge amount of space for something that I mainly used for making pens and the occasional bowl. So I sold it and bought a Jet 1410. What a huge mistake. Too small and way under powered. Sure it would do pens but bowls or large items took for friggin ever due to the lack of any torque or power in the 1/2 hp motor.

You’re thinking, well duh dude.

Like I said, I made a huge mistake. One that I corrected today.

Two weeks ago I sold my mini lathe to a fella up the road. He was getting it for his 10 year old boy as his first lathe. A perfect fit. It brought a me a big smile to see that kids eye light up as we put it in his dad’s truck. It also brought me $200. I also cleared out a couple of other items that I wasn’t using much.

So this morning I sit at my computer with $600 in hand. Amazon awaited with the Delta 46-460 all ready to go. I have Amazon Prime, so I’ll get it delivered by Wednesday (WooHoo!!). Just in time because I have a lot of Christmas gifts planned this year. I spent a good part of today sharpening tools, laying out pen kits, and prepping for a couple of bowls that I want to turn.

Is it Wednesday yet?
