Will stain bleed into inlay? - 2 replies Hey guys, looking for some help here. I have an oak box lid that I stained with a Jacobean color. I want to put some carved pieces of pine as inlay. I’m assuming I have to seal the pine in some way before putting it in the channels I carved in the lid? I’m worried that when I put the poly on it will cause the dark stain to bleed ... |

Looking for hand cut dovetail tips and tricks - 2 replies I picked up this wonderful jig and saw combo tonight at Lee Valley to cut 1:8 dovetails. I didn’t realize that getting rid of the waste material was where there was the most room for error. Does anybody have tips or tricks to remove the waste? Newbie question - 13 replies I took my first trip to a specialty hardwood lumber mill today and I was like a kid in a candy store. I picked up all sort of cool stuff like Purpleheart, Bloodwood, Olivewood. My question is some of the wood I got like the Zircote has wax on it. Is this a property of the wood or something the mill puts on to protect it until it is worked... |
