I have recently started upgrading my shop dust collection from a 1.5 HP Jet to a Oneida Super Dust Gorilla. The old system was piped with 4” PVC but this was not adequate for the new cyclone system.

Looking at the various options, I went with 6” SDR35 PVC piping and fittings. Fortunately, I have a Menards which stocks both the 6” pipe and the fittings. My dust collector is in my garage and then piped into my shop across the ceiling. I did not like the metal strap hangers so made the following.

They are made from 3/4” plywood for the base and 1/2” baltic birch for the pieces that cradle the pipe. I cut the curve on the band saw and then sanded them by taping a piece of coarse sandpaper on a short piece of pipe.

The pieces are finished with amber shellac. The 1/4” bolts are there to hold the heavy duty flex ties that secures the pipe. The following shows an example of how the pipe is held.

Once I had the layout, I mounted the cradles to the ceiling with deck screws and washers.
