Hello everybody... wow what a cool site. Im still looking around like whoa! Thanks for the very nice welcome too. Im very new to wood working. And I will probably be in closer contact with a lot of you asking questions, and for your opinions or personal reviews. So I apologize in advance for being a pain in thee arse if I bug you one day... ha ha. But I dont mean any harm, just dumb thats all, so please bare with me if you can. Honestly I have never been into wood working at all, and certainly not all my life. I have done some alarm installation, and I done some electrical contracting. But the only real wood working experience I can say I have had was jr high school wood shop. But this all changed May 2009 when I moved from So. Calif to No. Calif.
I cant begin to tell you how expensive it is, or would be to make a long distance move. Even just the stuff from a 1 bedroom apt, let along a house, can run into $1000's of dollars, so I decided to craiglist all my things that I could, and give the rest away. Once I moved, and found a place I needed 2 things. 1. I needed furniture 2. I needed a job that paid to buy that furniture with. It might have just been logic working in the background of my brain ha ha, but something said to me... well why not find a job where furniture is built, sold, or delivered? So I sought out to do that. I called all the local furniture stores, and in this small town I live in thats about 1 or 2. I did some foot looking too, but didnt have much luck, not too mention it was kind of rainy the first few weeks I arrived here. It took a few weeks, but I finally met a local furniture builder using craigslist who made custom patio furniture. His furniture was really nice looking, and well made. I asked for work and he offered me a pt job staining / weather proofing all the great furniture he built. I was nevervous at first... didnt want to screw any of his nice furniture up. But it turns out that my artistic luck kicked in and allowed me to do a well enough job to have landed the pt wood staining job. And well my wood working guru's this was how I became reaquainted with wood working. So being it that im like a bird getting ready to fly from a nest to attempt to build my first project I thought nothng could be more suitable than to actually make a really nice bird house.... theres that funny logic again huh?
I have been preparing to get started for the last few weeks, so I been going to local flea markets, and yard sales looking for tools and supplies. I have also bought some tools off craigslist. So far I have in my arsenal a table saw, a circular saw, a jig saw, a router with a multibase. A router table, some hand tools including a set of cheap chisels. And last but not least... an old rusty good looking hand planer. It needs to be fine tuned, so if there was any question to ask at this moment then I would ask for tips on how to get this old planer in top shape. So thats a little about me for now. Say hi... im friendly. Have a great day, and happy wood working.
