First and foremost - I've been a single dad of two beautiful kids since they were very young. Brandon, born in 1994 (currently 19 as I write this) and Paige born in 1997 (currently 16, begging for a car). They are my #1 priority. Brandon is in his second year of college, and will be moving out starting his junior year. Luckily that will somewhat acclimate me to a child moving out, as I know it is going to be very hard on me to see my daughter leave in a couple of years when she starts college.

I got the woodworking bug at around age 10. I am so fortunate that my grandpa, who was a high school chemisty and physics teacher, was also a woodworker. I would be in his woodshop and loved everything about it. He would let me use his craftsman lathe and his craftsman radial arm saw. Black walnut was native in the area (northwest Ohio) and the smell, along with boiled linseed oil which my grandpa used (1970's, early 1980's), is still very vivid in my mind and senses.

Raising my kids all these years didn't allow me to do any woodworking, nor allow a budget for it. Just the past few years have I been able to slowly start kindling my passion for woodworking. I've modestly been acquiring tools and building some projects. It is very satisfying.

Making the gator table required 1 seal coat followed by 3 coats of glaze. I used an orbital sander with 360 grit to level the resin in between coats. Let the resin cure for 3 days before sanding and recoating each time. I used a car polisher when table was done to remove a few dust particles and give it a silky smooth feel.
